The Washington
State Department of Revenue collects detailed records about the kinds of
purchases made in each city. This system
is useful, but it is not perfect for every statistical query. The originator of the query must use
discretion in order to come up with realistic estimates. Businesses are assigned a North American
Industry Classification (NAICS) code that best describes their primary
purpose. For example, the NAICS number
for an auto parts store is 441310, so your purchase at such a store would be
classified under auto parts regardless of whether the product is for marine
or automotive use. Below are some of
the NAICS codes that were not counted but may contain local marine-related
revenue. ·
